Surat has been placed on monsoon alert after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rainfall across the city and several parts of south Gujarat over the coming days.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as intense rain could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion and disruptions to daily life. Civic agencies have also been asked to stay prepared for any emergency situation arising from continuous rainfall.
The IMD has indicated that an active monsoon system is likely to bring moderate to heavy showers to Surat, with isolated locations expected to receive very heavy rainfall. Residents have been urged to monitor official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain.
Municipal officials have deployed emergency response teams and activated control rooms to monitor rainfall, drainage systems and flood-prone areas. Rescue equipment and pumps have also been kept on standby to respond quickly if required.
Motorists have been advised to drive carefully on waterlogged roads, while people living near rivers and vulnerable locations have been asked to remain alert. Fishermen have also been cautioned about rough sea conditions along the Gujarat coast.
The monsoon has already brought significant rainfall to several districts of Gujarat, and weather officials expect rain activity to continue over the next few days.
Authorities have appealed to the public to follow official advisories, avoid flooded areas and report emergencies to local disaster management teams if needed.
