India vs New Zealand: 12-Match Mega Series Set to Begin in October, T20Is, ODIs and Tests on the Way
A major cricket contest is approaching as India and New Zealand prepare for a 12-match all-format tour beginning October 22, 2026. The schedule includes five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests, making it the largest inbound international tour by match count in New Zealand Cricket's history.
The tour will run from October 22 to December 1, taking the two teams across several major New Zealand venues and covering all three international formats.
Five T20Is Open the Tour
The series begins with five T20Is:
- October 22: 1st T20I — Christchurch
- October 24: 2nd T20I — Christchurch
- October 27: 3rd T20I — Wellington
- October 30: 4th T20I — Auckland
- November 1: 5th T20I — Hamilton
The T20I leg will be followed immediately by the ODI series.
Five ODIs Follow
The five-match ODI series will run from November 4 to November 15:
- November 4: 1st ODI — Auckland
- November 7: 2nd ODI — Wellington
- November 10: 3rd ODI — Hamilton
- November 13: 4th ODI — Mount Maunganui
- November 15: 5th ODI — Mount Maunganui
The ODI matches will be particularly significant as India continues preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Two Tests Complete the Tour
The red-ball portion will conclude the tour with two Tests:
1st Test: November 19–23, Wellington
2nd Test: November 27–December 1, Christchurch
The Test series will also mark India's return to Test cricket in New Zealand after the teams last played a Test series there in 2019–20.
Rachin Ravindra's Fitness Adds an Early Question
New Zealand's preparations have already been affected by an injury concern. All-rounder Rachin Ravindra dislocated his right shoulder during a promotional shoot in Auckland on September 16.
New Zealand Cricket said the initial assessment showed no major structural damage, but his availability for the India T20Is will depend on his rehabilitation.
The New Zealand squad for the India series is expected to be announced next week, according to current reporting.
A Major All-Format Assignment
New Zealand Cricket has described India's visit as one of the biggest tours in its international home schedule. The 12 matches across five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests will be played across the country's major cricket centres.
For India, the tour comes after a busy home schedule and will require players to transition between the shortest format, 50-over cricket and Test cricket within a little over a month.
TVR Perspective
TVR Perspective: The scale of this tour makes it more than a single-format series. With 12 matches spread across three formats, it gives both teams an extended international campaign in which different players and skills will be tested at different stages. The immediate focus, however, will be on the five-match T20I opener beginning in Christchurch.
Sources & Verification
The schedule has been cross-checked with New Zealand Cricket and ICC announcements, while current injury information on Rachin Ravindra was verified against reporting based on New Zealand Cricket's update.
