Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has strongly condemned the police action against student protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, expressing anger over the treatment of young demonstrators and extending his support to their movement.
In an emotional video message, Shah said he was deeply disturbed by scenes of students being subjected to force during the protest. He urged the young demonstrators not to lose courage and said many people across the country stood with them.
“SAB YAAD RAKHA JAYEGA”
One of the strongest moments in Shah’s message came when he warned that the events surrounding the protest would not simply be forgotten.
“Sab yaad rakha jayega,” Shah said — a message that quickly attracted attention across social media.
The actor said his “blood boils” when he sees the way young protesters are being treated. He also strongly criticised masked, baton-carrying personnel involved in the police action.
SHAH EXTENDS SUPPORT TO STUDENTS
Shah told the protesting students to remain determined and continue raising their voices.
Reflecting on his own career as an actor and teacher, he said young people and students had taught him some of the most important lessons of his life.
He expressed hope in India’s younger generation and said the ongoing movement had strengthened that belief.
The comments came after police action during the Chalo Sansad march linked to protests over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the examination system.
Shah, however, was not physically present at the Jantar Mantar protest. A separate video circulating online claiming to show him at the demonstration was found to be from an earlier event in Mumbai.
BOLLYWOOD VOICES JOIN THE DEBATE
Shah’s intervention adds another prominent voice from the film industry to the growing debate surrounding the student protests.
His wife, actor Ratna Pathak Shah, has also expressed solidarity with the protesting students.
As the agitation continues to draw political and public attention, Shah’s message has become one of the most prominent expressions of support from the entertainment industry, particularly his warning that the events surrounding the crackdown will be remembered.
