Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi Martyred in Terror Attack During Amarnath Yatra Duty

Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was martyred in a terrorist attack while performing Amarnath Yatra security duty in Anantnag, officials said.

The attack took place near Lal Chowk in Anantnag, where terrorists opened fire on the police personnel. Qureshi, who was attached to the Special Operations Group (SOG) and posted with the Indian Reserve Police (IRP), sustained critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident marks the first major terror attack targeting police personnel in the Kashmir Valley since the 2025 Pahalgam attack. Following the killing, security forces launched a large-scale anti-terror operation across several districts, conducting searches and questioning suspected overground workers.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Qureshi's family to offer condolences, while Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior police officials paid tribute to the fallen officer, describing his sacrifice as an act of exceptional courage and dedication to duty.

The attack has led to heightened security arrangements along the Amarnath Yatra route, with authorities intensifying operations to trace those responsible.

Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi is remembered for laying down his life while protecting pilgrims and maintaining security during one of India's most significant annual religious pilgrimages.
