The Congress on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the controversy surrounding the recent student protests in Delhi.
Addressing the media during protests in the national capital, senior Congress leaders alleged that the government's handling of the student demonstrations reflected a failure to protect democratic rights. The party accused the Centre of allowing an atmosphere that led to confrontation between protesters and security personnel.
Congress leaders said the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Education Minister should accept moral responsibility for the developments and step down from their positions. The opposition also called for an independent and transparent investigation into the incidents linked to the student protests.
The demands came as Congress MPs and party workers continued demonstrations near Parliament and other parts of central Delhi. Protesters carried party flags and placards while raising slogans seeking accountability and justice for students.
Delhi Police maintained heightened security across Parliament Street, Lok Kalyan Marg and nearby high-security areas, deploying additional personnel and erecting barricades to manage the protests. Traffic restrictions remained in force at several locations throughout the day.
The government has defended the security measures, stating that police acted to maintain public order and ensure safety in sensitive areas. Meanwhile, the opposition has vowed to continue its protests until its demands are addressed.
The issue has intensified political tensions in the national capital, with both the ruling party and the opposition continuing to exchange allegations over the handling of the student protest controversy.
