Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a career that spanned more than a decade. Rahane shared the news through a heartfelt message on social media, saying he felt the time was right to move on from representing India.
Rahane made his international debut in 2011 and went on to represent India in all three formats. He became one of the country's most dependable Test batters, scoring 5,077 runs in 85 Tests, including 12 centuries. He also played 90 One-Day Internationals and 20 T20 Internationals, making valuable contributions across formats.
One of the defining moments of his career came during India's historic 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in Australia. After taking over the captaincy under difficult circumstances, Rahane led a young and injury-hit Indian side to a memorable 2-1 series victory, highlighted by his match-winning century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. That achievement remains one of Indian cricket's greatest overseas successes.
Although Rahane has retired from international cricket, he has not announced his retirement from domestic cricket or franchise leagues such as the IPL. His statement marks the end of his international journey, while his future in other competitions remains open.
