Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Gets Government NOC After Major Changes to China Portrayal

Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Gets Government NOC After Major Changes to China Portrayal

Salman Khan’s much-delayed war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace has reportedly cleared a major hurdle ahead of its theatrical release. According to multiple reports published on October 3, 2026, the revised version of the film has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting after substantial changes were made to its content and its portrayal of India-China relations.

However, the film has not yet completed the CBFC certification process, meaning its final theatrical release is not officially confirmed.

From Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi

The film was originally announced as Battle of Galwan and was based around the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops.

It was subsequently renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and starring Salman Khan and Chitrangada Singh, the project has faced several delays during its journey to theatres.

Major Changes to the Film

Reports indicate that the makers carried out substantial changes and reshoots after concerns emerged over the film's treatment of China.

A report cited by Hindustan Times says the revised version is significantly different from the original and now includes a more positive portrayal of India-China relations. The Indian Express also reported that substantial modifications were made before the government clearance.

The exact extent of the changes has not been publicly detailed by the filmmakers.

Government NOC Reportedly Granted

According to reports citing Bollywood Hungama, officials of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry were satisfied with the revised version and issued an NOC last week.

The development is significant because the film had remained in uncertainty for months amid questions surrounding its China-related content.

The makers, however, have not publicly confirmed all the reported details of the government clearance.

CBFC Certification Is Still Pending

The reported government NOC does not mean the film has completed all regulatory requirements for theatrical release.

The film still needs to go through the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) process. Reports say the makers are expected to submit the revised film for certification soon.

November Release Being Reported

Some reports say Salman Khan and the makers are considering November 13, 2026 for the theatrical release.

That date is not officially confirmed. The reported release plan remains dependent on completion of the CBFC process and an official announcement from the filmmakers.

Why It Matters

Maatrubhumi has been one of Salman Khan’s most closely watched upcoming projects because of its subject matter and the prolonged uncertainty surrounding its release.

The reported NOC removes one major hurdle, but the film's journey is not complete until certification and the final release plans are officially announced.

TVR Perspective

The latest development is best understood as a step forward rather than a confirmed release announcement. The reported government NOC indicates that the revised version has cleared one important stage, while CBFC certification and the official release date remain pending.

Sources & Verification

This report is based on October 3, 2026 reporting from Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, NDTV and other outlets citing the reported Bollywood Hungama source. The government NOC and the reported changes have not been independently announced in a detailed public statement by the filmmakers.
