Rohit Sharma’s Special 92 Misses Century as India Recover Strongly Against West Indies in 3rd ODI

Rohit Sharma’s Special 92 Misses Century as India Recover Strongly Against West Indies in 3rd ODI

Rohit Sharma produced another memorable innings for India in the third ODI against West Indies on October 3, 2026, scoring a fluent 92 off 85 balls at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. He fell just eight runs short of another century, but his innings played a major role in India's recovery after an early collapse.

India Lose Gill and Kohli Early

India won the toss and elected to bat, but the innings began badly.

Captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 1, before Virat Kohli was bowled for a golden duck by West Indies pacer Jayden Seales. India were reduced to just 4/2 early in the innings.

With the top order under pressure, Rohit took responsibility alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Rohit and Gaikwad Rescue India

Rohit and Gaikwad rebuilt the innings with a crucial 137-run partnership.

Rohit initially played cautiously before accelerating as the innings progressed. He eventually scored 92 from 85 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 108.23.

The innings looked increasingly likely to become another Rohit century, particularly after his century in the previous ODI.

However, his attempt to reach three figures ended when he was dismissed for 92.

A Special Knock Despite Missing the Century

Rohit's 92 was significant beyond the missed century.

During the innings, he reached 10,000 ODI runs as an opener, becoming the fastest batter to reach that milestone in the format.

He also continued an impressive run in the series after scoring a century in the second ODI.

His partnership with Gaikwad gave India the platform to rebuild after losing two major batters almost immediately.

India Finish on 351/7

After Rohit's dismissal, India continued to build a substantial total.

KL Rahul produced the biggest innings of the day, remaining unbeaten on 129 from 87 balls, while Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 57. India eventually finished on 351/7 in 50 overs, setting West Indies a target of 352.

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales took three wickets, including the early dismissals of Gill and Kohli.

The Moment From the Live Match

The supplied TVR graphic captured the match during the live innings at 195/4 after 32.5 overs, highlighting Rohit's 92 off 85 balls.

The final score later moved well beyond that point as India finished at 351/7.

TVR Perspective

Rohit's century may have remained unfinished, but his 92 came at an important moment. After India lost Gill and Kohli almost immediately, his partnership with Gaikwad stabilised the innings and created the foundation for India's eventual 351/7.

Sources & Verification

The match details were checked against live and post-innings reports from India Today, Indian Express, Hindustan Times and other contemporary cricket coverage. India ultimately made 351/7, with Rohit Sharma scoring 92, Ruturaj Gaikwad 57 and KL Rahul an unbeaten 129.
