KL Rahul’s Unbeaten 129 Powers India to 351/7 After Early Collapse Against West Indies

KL Rahul’s Unbeaten 129 Powers India to 351/7 After Early Collapse Against West Indies

KL Rahul produced a stunning unbeaten 129 off 87 balls as India recovered from a disastrous start to post 351/7 in 50 overs against the West Indies in the third and final ODI at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on October 3, 2026.

India were reduced to just 4/2 inside the first three overs, but Rahul's century, supported by major contributions from Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, transformed the innings and gave West Indies a target of 352.

India Collapse to 4/2

The innings began with a huge setback for India.

Captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 1, before Virat Kohli was bowled for a golden duck by West Indies pacer Jayden Seales. India were suddenly 4/2 and facing serious pressure.

That brought Rahul into the middle, with Rohit Sharma joining him as India looked to rebuild.

Rohit Sharma Leads the Recovery

Rohit played an important supporting role, scoring 92 from 85 balls with 10 fours and three sixes.

He and Ruturaj Gaikwad then combined for a crucial partnership, with Gaikwad contributing 57. Their efforts gave India the platform needed for Rahul to attack later in the innings.

Rohit also reached a significant career milestone during his innings, becoming the fastest batter to reach 10,000 ODI runs as an opener.

Rahul Turns the Match Around

Rahul initially concentrated on rebuilding the innings before accelerating dramatically in the second half.

He reached his ninth ODI century in just 80 balls and finished unbeaten on 129 from 87 deliveries. His innings contained 10 fours and six sixes, giving him a strike rate of more than 148.

The century was also Rahul's highest ODI score, surpassing his previous best.

His performance also moved him level with MS Dhoni for the most ODI centuries by an Indian batter at No. 5, according to reports.

India Finish on 351/7

After the early collapse, India finished their 50 overs on 351/7.

Rahul remained unbeaten on 129, while Rohit scored 92 and Gaikwad made 57. Seales was the West Indies' leading wicket-taker, finishing with three wickets.

The recovery was particularly significant because India had been in serious trouble at 4/2 before their middle order rebuilt the innings.

West Indies Face 352-Run Target

India's final total meant West Indies needed 352 runs to win the third ODI.

The match was the final game of the three-match ODI series, with India's first-innings performance setting up the decisive second innings in New Chandigarh.

TVR Perspective

India's innings was a sharp example of how quickly an ODI can change. From 4/2 in the opening overs, Rahul's unbeaten century and the contributions around him turned a difficult start into a 351-run total. Rahul's acceleration in the closing stages was particularly important in pushing India beyond the 350 mark.

Sources & Verification

TVR verified the innings details using ESPNcricinfo's match report, PTI/The Tribune and Indian Express reports. India finished on 351/7, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 129 off 87, Rohit Sharma on 92 and Ruturaj Gaikwad on 57.
