India’s Asian Games Medal Push Ends With 85 Medals and Fourth Place
India completed its medal campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a late surge across cricket, hockey, archery, wrestling and golf helping the country finish with 85 medals.
India’s final tally stood at 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, placing the country fourth in the overall standings. India and Uzbekistan both finished with 21 gold medals, but India moved ahead on silver medals.
A Strong Final Day
India added several important medals on October 3.
Kumkum Mohod won gold in the women’s individual recurve archery event, while Pranavi Urs became the women’s individual golf champion. Aman Sehrawat also won gold in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling category.
India then secured two major team golds.
The men’s cricket team defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the T20 final, while the men’s hockey team beat Malaysia 5–1 to retain its Asian Games title.
Cricket and Hockey Add Two More Golds
India's cricket victory was particularly notable because it completed a gold-medal double in cricket. The women's team had already won gold earlier in the Games.
In the men's final, India scored 211/6, before restricting Pakistan to 192/6. Abhishek Sharma scored 61 and Tilak Varma made an unbeaten 51, while Pakistan's Hasan Nawaz scored 96.
Later, India’s men's hockey team defeated Malaysia 5–1, successfully defending its Asian Games title and securing direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
