Kartik Aaryan’s long-awaited film Captain India has finally moved forward, with the aviation drama going on floors in London after nearly five years in development.
The film, originally announced in 2021 with Hansal Mehta as director, is now being helmed by Shimit Amin, marking the filmmaker’s return to feature-film direction after a long gap.
From Long Delay to Production
Captain India had remained largely quiet since its announcement, leading to uncertainty over whether the project would actually be made. The film subsequently underwent a major change behind the camera, with Shimit Amin replacing Hansal Mehta.
Amin began filming on September 1, 2026, with the current schedule being shot in London. Kartik Aaryan also shared glimpses of his journey to London and his shooting script on social media.
The actor later shared Amin’s handwritten message thanking the cast and crew for remaining committed to the project despite the difficulties it had faced.
Kartik Aaryan as a Pilot
Kartik Aaryan is set to portray a pilot at the centre of a major humanitarian evacuation mission. The film is being mounted as an aviation action drama inspired by a real Indian rescue operation.
The project has also added Parvathy Thiruvothu and Manish Chaudhary to the cast, with Parvathy reportedly playing an important role.
Shimit Amin Returns
For Shimit Amin, Captain India represents a major return to filmmaking. He is best known for films including Chak De! India and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.
The project is being produced by T-Series, Baweja Studios and Dopamine Studios.
The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on August 13, 2027.
After years of uncertainty, Captain India is now officially in production, giving Kartik Aaryan’s much-discussed project a fresh start under a new director and a new production phase.
