Haiwaan Box Office Disaster: Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan Film Crashes in Second Week
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s Haiwaan has suffered a dramatic collapse at the box office. Released on September 11, 2026, the Priyadarshan-directed thriller opened below expectations and failed to gain momentum during its first week.
The film’s latest reported performance has made the situation even more difficult: according to Bollywood Hungama, Haiwaan collected only ₹66,838 on its second Friday, representing a reported 98.62% drop from its first Thursday collection.
A Weak Start From Day One
Haiwaan began its theatrical run with an India net collection of around ₹2.79 crore on opening day, according to Bollywood Hungama. Collections then fell to ₹2.13 crore on Saturday and ₹1.58 crore on Sunday.
That gave the film an opening weekend of approximately ₹6.50 crore.
The film was expected to benefit from its combination of two established Bollywood stars and Priyadarshan’s direction, but the weekend failed to provide the growth normally needed for a theatrical recovery.
First Week Ends Below ₹9 Crore
The weekday performance remained subdued.
According to Bollywood Hungama's tracking, Haiwaan collected:
- Day 1: ₹2.79 crore
- Day 2: ₹2.13 crore
- Day 3: ₹1.58 crore
- Day 4: ₹0.64 crore
- Day 5: ₹0.59 crore
- Day 6: ₹0.47 crore
- Day 7: ₹0.48 crore
The reported first-week total reached ₹8.68 crore net in India.
The same tracker lists approximately ₹10.33 crore India gross and ₹11.48 crore worldwide gross at that point. Box-office trackers can differ, however, and some outlets are reporting different totals.
Second Week Collapse
The biggest setback came after the first week.
Bollywood Hungama reported that Haiwaan earned just ₹66,838 on September 18, its second Friday. Compared with its first Thursday collection of ₹48 lakh, the publication calculated a fall of approximately 98.62%.
Such a sharp decline indicates that the film was struggling to retain theatrical audiences as its second week began.
Competition Added to the Pressure
The film also faced competition from other releases during its theatrical run.
Bollywood Hungama attributed part of the difficult market conditions to competition from Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh, while the Indian Express reported that Haiwaan lost around 1,400 screens to Hanuman Ansh during its opening weekend.
However, competition is only one part of the box-office picture. The film's own weak opening and limited weekday growth were already evident before the second-week collapse.
Priyadarshan Reflects on the Film's Performance
The film's underperformance has also prompted reflection from director Priyadarshan.
In comments reported by the Times of India, the veteran filmmaker discussed the uncertainty involved in understanding what makes a film connect with audiences, while Haiwaan was underperforming commercially.
Haiwaan is a Hindi thriller based on Priyadarshan's earlier Malayalam film Oppam, which starred Mohanlal. The Hindi version features Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in its central roles.
What the Numbers Show
The available box-office figures point to a difficult theatrical run:
Opening Day: ~₹2.79 crore
Opening Weekend: ~₹6.50 crore
First Week: ~₹8.68 crore
Second Friday: ~₹66,838
These figures are reported estimates/tracking figures rather than producer-certified final accounts, and different box-office trackers currently show different totals.
For now, the most striking development is the enormous fall in collections during the second week.
A Major Setback for the Thriller
Haiwaan arrived with a recognizable cast and an experienced director, but its theatrical trajectory has been sharply downward since release.
The film's opening weekend did not generate significant momentum, weekday collections remained below ₹1 crore, and its second Friday figure fell to below ₹1 lakh according to Bollywood Hungama's latest report.
With such a steep second-week decline, the film's theatrical run has become a major commercial disappointment based on currently reported box-office performance.
