Arsenal Beat Chelsea 2-1 in Major Premier League London Derby
Arsenal delivered a statement performance at the Emirates Stadium, coming from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 in a major Premier League London derby on September 6.
Chelsea stunned the home crowd after just 77 seconds, but Arsenal responded through Kai Havertz and captain Martin Ødegaard to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.
Chelsea Strike First
Chelsea made the dream start when Morgan Rogers reacted quickly to a dangerous Reece James free-kick and fired a volley past David Raya.
The goal came inside two minutes and immediately put Arsenal under pressure.
The hosts gradually grew into the contest, increasing their possession and pushing Chelsea's defence deeper.
Havertz Brings Arsenal Level
Arsenal eventually found their equaliser in the 25th minute.
Kai Havertz, facing his former club, produced a composed finish to make it 1-1 and shift the momentum back towards the reigning champions.
Chelsea continued to threaten, with Pedro Neto hitting the post, but Arsenal finished the first half with the match level.
Ødegaard Completes the Comeback
Arsenal took the lead five minutes into the second half.
A flowing attacking move created space for Martin Ødegaard, who finished clinically in the 50th minute.
Havertz's clever movement helped create the opening, allowing Arsenal's captain to strike and put the Gunners 2-1 ahead.
Chelsea pushed hard for an equaliser during the closing stages, but Arsenal's defence held firm.
In the 89th minute, David Raya produced a crucial fingertip save to deny substitute Estêvão and preserve Arsenal's lead.
Arsenal Maintain Perfect Start
The victory gave Arsenal their third consecutive Premier League win of the new campaign.
The result also extended Arsenal's unbeaten run against Chelsea to 12 matches across all competitions.
For Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, the defeat ended his team's unbeaten start, although Chelsea showed enough attacking quality to suggest they could remain serious contenders this season.
For Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, however, the comeback represented an important early test of their championship credentials.
The champions were tested early — and responded like champions.
