Singer and composer Amaal Mallik has announced a temporary break from new film music, saying he wants to put his health, recovery and personal well-being ahead of his professional commitments.
Mallik shared the announcement on August 27, 2026, through a post on X. Along with his message, he shared a photograph from a hospital and said that he needed time to focus on his mind, body, soul and overall physical healing. He also reassured his fans that he was doing well.
The announcement does not appear to be a retirement from music. Instead, Mallik has made it clear that he is stepping away from new film-music assignments until next year, with the intention of returning once he has recovered.
A temporary pause from film projects
Mallik said his immediate priority is to do what is best for himself and his health. His decision means that audiences should not expect him to take on new film-song projects during the break.
At the same time, music that he has already recorded could still be released. Mallik indicated that some unreleased songs connected to smaller-budget films may eventually reach audiences, although the release of some of those projects remains uncertain.
This distinction is important because Mallik has not said that he is leaving the music industry permanently. His message instead points towards a period of recovery followed by a return to creating music.
Coming after a difficult period
The announcement comes after Mallik has spoken publicly in recent months about difficulties he says he has experienced within the film and music industry.
In earlier posts, the composer alleged that influential figures had sidelined him from projects and claimed that he had been removed from a large number of assignments over several years. These remain Mallik's allegations, rather than established findings.
He has also recently spoken about the reaction to his song “Yeh Awarapan”, from Awarapan 2, including claims about negativity and promotional activity surrounding the track. Those claims have likewise been presented as his own assertions.
Rather than connecting his break definitively to any one controversy, Mallik's own announcement places the emphasis on health, healing and personal priorities.
“Ab mujhe Vida Karo”
Mallik ended his message with a clear request for space from fans and the public.
He indicated that he wants to step away for a while, recover and eventually return with new music. His message also reflected on his journey from music into cinema and his desire to move back towards music itself.
For his followers, the announcement means a pause rather than a farewell. His existing work may continue to appear, while new film-music commitments remain on hold.
Amaal Mallik's next chapter
Amaal Mallik has established himself as one of the recognised contemporary singer-composers in Hindi cinema, with popular songs including “Soch Na Sake,” “Sooraj Dooba Hain” and “Besabriyaan.”
His recent work includes music associated with Awarapan 2, making the timing of his announcement particularly notable. Yet his latest decision suggests that he is willing to step away from the industry's demanding schedule rather than continue working while he feels the need to recover.
For now, there will be no new film music from Amaal Mallik until next year, according to his announcement. The composer has asked fans to respect his space and has promised to return when he is ready.
His message ultimately places the focus not on an exit, but on recovery — and on coming back to music with renewed energy.
