Maharashtra Hill Tragedy: Son Falls While Father Tries to Save Him, Mother Also Dies

A heartbreaking tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district has claimed the lives of a young man and both his parents after a desperate attempt to prevent him from falling from a hill ended in tragedy.

The incident took place at Khavdya Dongar near Tisgaon on Friday. Police said the young man had gone to the hill and remained near the edge for several hours while his parents, villagers and rescuers tried to convince him to return to safety.

Three Family Members Lose Their Lives

The deceased were identified as Kunal Chandgude, his father Murlidhar Chandgude and his mother Sangita Chandgude.

According to police, Kunal had gone to the hill around 10 a.m. following a dispute with his parents. Reports said the disagreement was connected to a mobile phone and its payment.

Police, villagers and fire brigade personnel reached the location and spent nearly three hours trying to persuade the young man to move away from the cliff edge.

Father Attempts to Save His Son

As the situation reached its final moments, Kunal moved towards the edge.

His father Murlidhar attempted to stop him and tried to pull him back. During the attempt, both father and son fell from the hill.

Rescue personnel and others at the scene were unable to prevent the fatal fall.

Mother Also Dies in the Tragedy

The tragedy became even more devastating when Kunal’s mother Sangita also fell from the hill shortly afterwards.

Police said all three family members died in the incident.

The bodies were subsequently recovered and sent for the required formalities.

Three-Hour Rescue Effort

The incident had already attracted the attention of villagers and authorities before the final tragedy unfolded.

People at the site repeatedly tried to convince the young man to step away from the dangerous location. Fire brigade personnel also attempted to prepare a safety net below the hill.

Despite these efforts, the situation could not be brought under control.

Mobile Phone Dispute Reportedly Behind the Crisis

Police and media reports have linked the incident to a dispute involving a mobile phone.

Reports said Kunal had purchased an iPhone and was facing difficulty with its instalment payments. The issue reportedly led to an argument with his father before he went to the hill.

Authorities are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Tragedy That Shocks the Community

The incident has left the local community deeply shocked.

What began as an attempt by parents and rescuers to bring a distressed young man back to safety ultimately resulted in the deaths of three members of the same family.

The tragedy also highlights the importance of recognising severe emotional distress and seeking immediate professional or community support when someone appears to be at risk.

Final Verdict

The Maharashtra hill tragedy has resulted in the deaths of a young man and both his parents following a desperate rescue attempt at Khavdya Dongar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The father died while attempting to save his son, while the mother also lost her life shortly afterwards.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the family dispute that reportedly preceded the tragedy.
