Kulgam Terror Attack: Two Migrant Workers Killed, Massive Search Operation Launched

A major anti-terror operation is underway in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district after terrorists targeted two migrant workers, both of whom later succumbed to their injuries. The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of non-local labourers working in the Kashmir Valley and prompted an extensive security response across the region.

According to officials, the attack took place at a brick kiln in the Kilam area of Kulgam district, where armed terrorists opened fire on two migrant labourers employed at the site. Both victims, who were from Chhattisgarh, sustained critical injuries. One worker died shortly after the attack, while the second later succumbed during treatment, taking the death toll to two.

Immediately after the shooting, personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the area. Security forces launched a massive cordon-and-search operation, sealing nearby villages, roads and forested areas in an effort to trace those responsible for the attack. Additional reinforcements were deployed to strengthen the security grid across south Kashmir.

Investigators are examining eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence collected from the crime scene. Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers specifically targeted the non-local workers before fleeing the area. Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage, electronic surveillance data and intelligence inputs to identify the terrorists involved.

The attack has triggered fear among migrant labourers employed in brick kilns, construction projects and agricultural activities across south Kashmir. Many workers reportedly remained indoors following the incident, while some have begun considering returning to their home states due to security concerns. Several brick kiln operations temporarily slowed as labourers assessed the evolving situation.

Security agencies have increased patrols around industrial units, labour camps and other locations where non-local workers are employed. Officials said additional checkpoints, vehicle inspections and area domination patrols have been introduced to prevent further attacks and reassure workers residing in the Valley.

Political leaders from across the country condemned the killings, describing the attack as an attempt to spread fear and disrupt normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called for swift action against those responsible.

The incident comes at a time when security forces have intensified counter-terror operations across the Union Territory. Intelligence agencies continue to monitor terrorist movements while maintaining heightened surveillance in vulnerable districts. Officials have reiterated that anti-terror operations will continue until those responsible for the Kulgam attack are brought to justice.

The attack has also renewed discussions about the security of migrant workers who contribute significantly to construction, agriculture and other sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to strengthen their protection and maintain law and order.

As the investigation progresses, security agencies remain on high alert. The large-scale search operation continues across Kulgam and adjoining areas, with officials expressing confidence that the attackers will be identified and apprehended. The incident underscores the continuing security challenges in the region while reinforcing the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and protect civilians.
