IND vs SL 2nd Test in Focus as India Eye 2-0 Series Sweep

India are in a strong position in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after finishing Day 1 at 300/5.

India, who won the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs, are aiming to complete a 2-0 series sweep, while Sri Lanka are fighting to level the series.

Devdutt Padikkal continued his outstanding form by scoring 117 runs, registering his second consecutive Test century of the series.

After making 167 in the first Test, Padikkal once again delivered at No. 3 and helped India recover after early setbacks.

Captain Shubman Gill also contributed with a half-century as India built a strong first-innings platform.

Gill had reached the milestone of 3,000 Test runs during the opening day of the Colombo Test.

India also faced an injury scare when wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was struck on the left arm by a short delivery from Lahiru Kumara.

Pant retired hurt and was replaced at the crease by Ravindra Jadeja.

Sri Lanka entered the second Test without several experienced batters, including Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal, while Pathum Nissanka is also unavailable.

The hosts have brought in younger players as they look to fight back after the heavy defeat in Galle.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁

India will look to turn their strong batting position into a big first-innings total before putting pressure on Sri Lanka’s inexperienced batting line-up.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, need early wickets and a strong response with the ball to prevent India from taking complete control.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁

The second Test has begun with India firmly in control.

Padikkal’s 117 and Gill’s half-century have put India at 300/5, while Sri Lanka face the difficult task of containing India and keeping their series hopes alive.

With India leading 1-0, the Colombo Test could decide whether the visitors complete a clean sweep or Sri Lanka fight back to share the series.
