72nd National Film Awards 2026: Article 370 Wins Best Feature Film, Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty Share Best Actor Honour
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards, honoring the finest achievements in Indian cinema for films certified during 2024. This year's awards celebrated outstanding performances, powerful storytelling and technical excellence across multiple languages and film industries.
The top honor of the ceremony went to Article 370, which was named Best Feature Film. The film also brought individual recognition to Yami Gautam, who won the Best Actress award for her powerful performance.
The Best Actor award was jointly presented to Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion and Mammootty for Pranayama. Both actors were recognized for delivering impactful performances that earned appreciation from the National Film Awards jury.
Rajkumar Periasamy received the Best Director award for Amaran, while Kalki 2898 AD won the award for Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, highlighting its success as one of the year's biggest cinematic productions.
Regional cinema also received significant recognition, reflecting the diversity and strength of Indian filmmaking. The awards honoured excellence in feature films, non-feature films and technical categories, acknowledging the contribution of artists from across the country.
Among the supporting categories, Sanjay Mishra won Best Supporting Actor for Bhakshak. The Best Supporting Actress award was shared by Ropashree Varkady for Mithya and Sachana Namidass for Maharaja.
